Teeth Whitening Q & A

What are my teeth whitening options?

There are several options out there for teeth whitening varying in effectiveness, price, and ease of use. These include:

  • Whitening toothpastes
  • Over-the-counter bleaching rinses, gels, or strips
  • Professional bleaching treatments such as Zoom

Whitening toothpastes contain polishing agents that remove surface stains only, so they’re not going to change the color of your teeth.

Over-the-counter bleaching gels or strips do bleach your tooth enamel; however, the concentration of the bleaching agent is significantly lower than what you receive with professional treatments. Also, results from over-the-counter bleaching kits usually are seen over a period of a few weeks, whereas professional bleaching results are noticeable after just one treatment.

What is Zoom whitening?

Zoom is the #1 patient-requested brand of professional teeth whitening. It’s a light-emitting diode (LED) system that is safe, painless, and affordable. Results from Zoom treatments can be immediate—up to eight shades whiter in just 45 minutes.

What is the Zoom whitening procedure like?

First of all, Dr. Mossaei recommends a normal teeth cleaning before Zoom whitening, so book an appointment for this beforehand. Also, before the procedure, he assesses your shade and takes impressions to make your custom mouth trays.

During the Zoom procedure, your lips and gums are covered, leaving your teeth exposed. Then, Dr. Mossaei or his staff apply the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which remains in place for 15 minutes while the Zoom light is activated. During this time, you can relax, read, or watch TV.

Dr. Mossaei applies the gel for three 15-minute sessions, for a total treatment time of about 45 minutes. At the end, he applies a sensitivity-reducing gel.

What are the side effects of Zoom whitening treatment?

Most people experience no side effects with Zoom whitening, but some people do experience sensitivity for a short period after treatment. These are usually people who already have sensitive teeth.

Dr. Mossaei at First Choice Dentistry can determine whether you’re a good candidate for Zoom and discuss what the treatment can do for you. Book an appointment online today and be on your way to a brighter smile.
